|

The project has a number of linked modules (Fig.1).

The project started with a benchmarking survey to determine what farming practices are currently used, and what factors prevent the adoption of sustainable systems (order through the Coordinator, $15-). Soil is being analysed to identify microbial and biochemical restrictions and to benchmark changes.
Core research is being conducted to identify constraints to sustainable farming systems. Various crop rotations and tillage methods are being studied for their effect on
Direct drill tillage equipment is being trialed at Waikerie, South Australia.
There are 46 focus paddocks throughout the Mallee, which make up the Farming Systems Monitoring Program. Agronomic and economic data will be monitored from a range of farming systems operating under commercial conditions (Sponsors: Elders, Wesfarmers).
